Safeguarding our waterways and protecting aquatic ecosystems

Why Does Freshwater Conservation Matter?

Freshwater ecosystems, including rivers, lakes, and wetlands, are essential for the health of our planet and the well-being of countless species, humans included. These habitats cover only a small part of the Earth’s surface but are incredibly rich in biodiversity. They support a diverse range of life, with many species uniquely adapted to these environments. These ecosystems provide critical services like water purification, flood control, and climate regulation.
Conserving freshwater systems is about much more than preserving nature's beauty. It’s fundamentally about protecting important natural resources vital for human life and the ecological balance of our planet. By recognizing and addressing the threats these habitats face, we ensure the availability of clean water, protect biodiversity, and maintain the essential ecological services that freshwater ecosystems offer. This proactive approach is key to keeping these invaluable ecosystems healthy and functional.

We take a three-fold approach to conservation:

Education and Outreach

We provide resources and educational materials to raise awareness and understanding of conservation efforts crucial to maintaining the balance within aquatic ecosystems.

Partnership Building

We cultivate relationships with local and national organizations, including fishing communities and environmental groups, to strengthen our collective efforts toward vibrant and healthy waterways.

Strategic Engagement

We actively participate in shaping broad-based strategies that protect against the spread of invasive species, ensuring our approaches are inclusive and consider the interests of all community stakeholders
